What is Numerology?

Numerology is the study of the mystical relationship between numbers and life events. Pythagorean numerology, the most widely used system, reduces your name and birth date to single digits (or master numbers 11, 22, 33) that reveal your personality, life purpose, and yearly cycles.

Core Numbers Explained

  • Life Path: Your most important number — derived from your birth date, it reveals your life's journey and main lessons.
  • Destiny (Expression): Calculated from your full name, it shows your talents, abilities, and what you're meant to accomplish.
  • Soul Urge (Heart's Desire): From the vowels in your name — your secret motivation and what truly drives you.
  • Personal Year: A 9-year cycle revealing the theme and opportunities of your current year.

Numerology FAQ

How is my Life Path number calculated?

Add every digit of your birth date, then keep reducing to a single digit — unless the total lands on 11, 22, or 33, which are master numbers and stay unreduced. For example, May 14, 1988 becomes 5 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 36, then 3 + 6 = 9. The Life Path is 9.

What is the difference between Life Path and Destiny number?

Life Path comes from your birth date and describes the themes you are here to work with. Destiny (also called Expression) comes from the letters of your full birth name and describes what you tend to express outward. The two often complement each other, and sometimes they create productive tension.

What is a master number?

11, 22, and 33 are master numbers in Pythagorean numerology. When a calculation totals one of these, practitioners leave it unreduced because the double-digit form is considered a more intense version of the reduced single digit. A Life Path 22, for example, carries the themes of a 4 (the builder) at a larger scale.

Can my Life Path number change?

No — your Life Path is fixed by your birth date. Your Personal Year (a separate number) cycles every year from 1 to 9 and is useful for reflection on what theme the coming twelve months tend to emphasize. CelestKin computes both at once.
